Roma Targets Greenwood in Transfer Bid

AS Roma appears to be making significant moves in the transfer market, as they set their sights on Marseille winger Mason Greenwood. Despite not yet appointing a sporting director, the club, alongside Gian Piero Gasperini, has pinpointed Greenwood as a priority acquisition for the upcoming season.

Both Roma and Marseille are under pressure to generate funds by the end of June, which could potentially lead to a reduction in Marseille's asking price for Greenwood. The Serie A side is reportedly prepared to part with Matias Soulé to facilitate this deal, indicating their commitment to securing the English winger.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Roma hopes to negotiate a transfer fee of around €40 million plus bonuses, less than Marseille's current valuation of approximately €50 million, which is influenced by a 40% buy-back clause held by Manchester United. However, negotiations are expected to be challenging.

Despite the hurdles, Greenwood seems receptive to the possibility of joining Roma, having expressed a desire not to return to the Premier League. His enthusiasm for the Italian club is further fueled by their recent qualification for the Champions League.
