Scottie Scheffler Reflects on Frustrating Week at Memorial Tournament
Scottie Scheffler has shared his thoughts on the challenges he faced during the Memorial Tournament, where he experienced his lowest finish at Muirfield Village since his debut there. The world’s top-ranked golfer had a rocky week at this prestigious PGA Tour event, even facing the possibility of missing the cut after a shaky start.
This disappointing performance was unexpected, especially considering Scheffler’s success in winning the Memorial in both 2024 and 2025. However, the 29-year-old has struggled to find his form for much of the current season. His frustration was palpable, particularly after a mishap on the 16th hole on Thursday where he found himself in the water.
As the tournament progressed, it appeared things might not improve for Scheffler, who was three over par after ten holes on Friday. Yet, just when it seemed he might not make the cut, he rallied to finish strong, going eight under par for the remainder of the event. Reflecting on his week, he expressed a mix of emotions, stating, “Overall, I would say pretty frustrating, but the way I played the last two days I definitely feel a lot better with kind of where things are at than I did coming off the course on Friday.”
He elaborated on his struggles, citing small mistakes that affected his game. “Just little things, little mistakes that I don’t typically make, I felt like I was making this week,” he said, indicating the need for improvement before the next tournament.
Despite not being at his peak, Scheffler has consistently placed within the top 25 on the PGA Tour in 2026. As he prepares for the upcoming US Open at Shinnecock, a challenging course that has yet to yield him a major victory, he noted what he learned during a recent practice round. “It’s one of those courses where there’s a ton of space out there, but the areas you have to hit into are quite small,” he explained, highlighting the course's difficulty.
