Sioux Falls Golfers Shine in SDGA Sanford Series Event in Rapid City
RAPID CITY — Sioux Falls golfers Trevor Rick and Ari Jacobs delivered impressive performances at the South Dakota Golf Association's Sanford International Series, held at Hart Ranch and Meadowbrook Golf Courses over two days. In the boys' competition, Rick showcased a remarkable final round to seize the individual title.
After starting the tournament with a 5-over-par 77 that left him tied for sixth, Rick rebounded with a strong 1-under-par 71 in the second round, bringing his total to 148 and winning by three strokes. Larz Tvedt from Wolsey, who led after the first round with a score of 75, finished second with a total of 151. Hayden Heig from Rapid City took third place with an overall score of 152, consistently scoring 76 in both rounds. A tie for fourth place ensued, with four players finishing at 153.
Among the notable competitors was JD Thompson from Wessington Springs, who improved by five strokes in the second round, concluding with a score of 163 and tying for 20th place.
In the girls' division, Jacobs delivered the tournament's best round, finishing with a remarkable 3-under-par 69 after an initial 80. Her two-day total of 149 clinched the championship, outpacing runner-up Kaitlin Strain from Rapid City by six strokes. Strain recorded scores of 80 and 75, while Sioux Falls' Stella Smith rounded out the top three with a total of 157.
The series will continue as it heads to the Metro Region, with upcoming events scheduled at Prairie Green Golf Course on June 29 and Willow Run Golf Course on June 30.
