Spain Coach Reflects on Viral Photo of Messi and Young Yamal

Spain's national team manager, Luis de la Fuente, recently shared his thoughts on a widely circulated image of Lionel Messi cradling a baby Lamine Yamal. The snapshot, which gained significant attention following Yamal's rise at FC Barcelona, dates back to a charity calendar shoot from when Messi was just 20 years old and Yamal was a mere five months old.

De la Fuente suggested that the connection might be purely coincidental but acknowledged the possibility of a deeper significance. “Maybe Messi has picked up lots of babies,” he remarked to The Guardian. “Maybe it’s chance. But for those of us who have faith, who believe in something beyond, ‘chance’ is God’s pseudonym when he doesn’t want to sign his name. In life I think, everything happens for a reason.”

The coach also addressed speculation surrounding whether Yamal could be seen as Messi's successor. He chose to sidestep the comparison, stating, “Messi: those are big words. Messi has been, is, and will always be … he is football.”
