Spencer Steer Gains Momentum for All-Star Selection as Reds Rankings Shift

ST. LOUIS – Spencer Steer has solidified his role as the most adaptable player on the Cincinnati Reds, showcasing his skills at five different positions this season and securing starts at four of them. As fan voting for the All-Star game commences, Steer appears to be making a case for his own selection, particularly after overcoming a sluggish start. Following a challenging three-week period, he has found his stride and is now a key contributor in the lineup.

Steer’s performance has notably improved since mid-April, where he has taken on a significant role batting third in recent games. He expressed a humble approach to the concept of an All-Star selection: “I’ve always thought if you show up every day and play the game to win, then all the individual accomplishments and accolades take care of themselves,” he stated. After starting the season at a disappointing .190, he has turned things around, now hitting .305 with six home runs, nine doubles, 22 walks, and an impressive .881 OPS through 43 games as of Saturday.

While Steer is focused on team success rather than personal accolades, he believes several of his teammates are deserving of recognition as well. “There’s a lot of guys in here that deserve it,” he noted, pointing out the strong performances from his fellow players. However, the Reds must quickly overcome their recent struggles to ensure more than just one All-Star spot is available.

In the latest rankings from the Enquirer, Steer has moved up in the All-Star Candidate Power Rankings, which highlight the top performers on the team. Leading the list is right-handed pitcher Chase Burns, who continues to impress with a stellar ERA of 2.05. Following him are outfielder JJ Bleday, who recently made a significant impact since joining the team, and Steer himself, who had a remarkable on-base streak earlier in the season. Other notable players include shortstop Elly De La Cruz, now on the injured list, and first baseman Sal Stewart, whose performance has fluctuated since a promising start.
