Sporting Club Jacksonville Women's Soccer Adjusts to New Schedule

Sporting Club Jacksonville's women’s soccer team will undergo a significant schedule change, transitioning to a spring-to-fall format alongside the entire USL Gainbridge Super League starting in 2027. This shift will be initiated with a condensed fall season commencing this August.

The upcoming fall season, which has been trimmed to include just eight teams after the Spokane Zephyr halted operations in May, is set to kick off on August 15. Each team will compete in a total of 14 matches, evenly split between home and away games, culminating on November 28. The top four teams will advance to the semifinals scheduled for December 5, leading up to the championship match on December 12. In their inaugural season, the Sporting Jax women made it to the semifinals at Hodges Stadium, where they faced defeat against Carolina Ascent FC.

This change marks a departure from the Super League's original fall-to-spring model introduced in 2024, which aimed to align more closely with global club soccer schedules. This prior structure was notably different from that of the National Women's Soccer League, which operates on a spring-to-fall basis. “This transition supports player movement, roster development, and long-term growth while creating an exciting, competitive environment that resonates with our fans and strengthens our connection to communities,” stated USL president Amanda Vandervort.

Both the NWSL and the Super League hold first-division status as recognized by the United States Soccer Federation. However, to meet U.S. Soccer's professional league standards, the Super League must expand to a total of ten teams—two more than its current lineup—by its fourth year. While the specific dates for the fall season have been announced, the league has yet to release a complete schedule or clarify when the 2027 spring-to-fall season will begin. Sporting Jax anticipates starting its preseason training for the fall in early July.
