Steelers make huge decision on Broderick Jones' future in Pittsburgh

Just before the 2026 fifth-year option deadline, the Pittsburgh Steelers have made a massive decision regarding the future of former 2023 first-round offensive tackle Broderick Jones.

According to a report from ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler on Thursday, the Steelers are declining Jones’ fifth-year option worth $19.1 million, meaning the 2026 season could be his last under contract with Pittsburgh barring an extension.

Jones, who suffered a season-ending neck injury last season against the Chicago Bears in Week 12, reportedly suffered a setback in his recovery just before the 2026 NFL Draft. Pittsburgh went on to select offensive tackle Max Iheanachor with the 21st overall pick in the first round, further signaling the Steelers were leaning toward the decision to decline Jones’ fifth-year option.

While it remains to be seen if Jones will be able to suit up for training camp, the Steelers apparently weren't willing to commit nearly $20 million to keep him in Pittsburgh through the 2027 season.
