Steelers Predicted To Draft SEC Star QB As Possible Aaron Rodgers Replacement
The Pittsburgh Steelers are entering a critical offseason, and they still don’t have a clear idea of who their quarterback will be.
There is a chance Aaron Rodgers will return for another season, but even if he does, the Steelers must start thinking about the future in case he decides to leave after next season.
A great way for Pittsburgh to strengthen the quarterback position is to draft a young player during the 2026 NFL Draft. With the Steelers currently holding the 21st pick, they could land a promising quarterback who has fallen down the draft board. Pro Football Focus’s Trevor Sikkema has someone in mind.
Sikkema released a mock draft on Monday, predicting that the Steelers will select Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson with the 21st pick.
“Simpson went through the on-field throwing sessions, despite not doing athletic testing, and I was impressed,” Sikkema wrote. “It’s not the biggest part of a quarterback’s evaluation, but for him to be in a new setting with new receivers and look as accurate as he did — specifically when throwing the deep ball — was fun to watch. I think he’s in the mid-to-late first-round range.”
Simpson played in 31 games for Alabama, and this past season marked his first as a full-time starter. Throughout his career, he amassed a total of 3,948 passing yards and threw 28 touchdown passes.
The Steelers will face an important decision on whether to draft a quarterback in the first round or add a player who can contribute to the roster immediately.
