Tartan Army Celebrates in Boston’s South Station Ahead of World Cup
Scotland's soccer fans are already in high spirits as they gather in Boston, eagerly anticipating their team’s return to the World Cup after a lengthy absence since 1998. At South Station, where crowds built up waiting for public transport, supporters could be heard singing enthusiastically, showcasing their excitement for the upcoming matches.
“Scotland hasn’t been to a World Cup in our lifetime, so, not having been to one before, it could be a once-in-a-lifetime experience,” expressed 22-year-old Callum Byers from Ayr, Scotland. His comments reflect the heightened anticipation among fans as they prepare for their team's games.
The festive atmosphere is further enriched by the sounds of bagpipes, a nod to Scottish culture, as celebrations unfold throughout the state. While the Scottish contingent stands out with their vibrant kilts and songs, fans from Haiti are equally thrilled. “My family’s Haitian. I’m so excited. It’s been 52 years since they were in the World Cup—before I was born—so this is my first time getting to see them play,” shared Bostonian Shaita Picard Cako, 33.
Cako added, “It’s fun. I feel like all the fans are just super happy to be here. Everyone’s just taking pictures and showing camaraderie, whether you’re a Haitian fan or a Scotland fan. It’s nice. It’s just cool to see how the whole city is organized around this.”
This vibrant gathering highlights not only the excitement surrounding the World Cup but also the unifying power of sports, bringing together fans from different backgrounds in celebration.
