Teoscar Hernández Out for Approximately a Month Due to Hamstring Injury
LOS ANGELES, CA - On May 27, 2026, Teoscar Hernández, the left fielder for the Los Angeles Dodgers, suffered a Grade 1 strain to his left hamstring while sprinting to first base during a game against the Colorado Rockies at Dodger Stadium. Despite this being the least severe type of hamstring strain, Hernández is still anticipated to be sidelined for around a month.
“It’s going to be a month. Hopefully less than that,” Hernández remarked on Saturday. He was advised by medical staff that pushing himself could have led to a more serious injury requiring a recovery period of three to four months.
The injury occurred during a groundout play, and the current approach involves prioritizing rest and healing before gradually rebuilding strength in the affected muscle. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts emphasized the importance of caution, saying, “As you get into the summer and you have a setback, it could be more costly.” He assured that a rehabilitation assignment would be arranged to ensure Hernández is fully prepared upon his return.
In the meantime, the Dodgers have called up Ryan Ward to fill the gap left by Hernández and intend to utilize a combination of Ward and Alex Call in left field during his absence. Additionally, once Tommy Edman completes his ongoing rehab assignment at Triple-A Oklahoma City, he may also contribute in left field along with his primary position at second base.
Hernández reflected on his current injury, noting that it feels different from a groin issue he faced last year. He expressed confidence in his recovery, stating, “If I get the time right and rest the way I should, the hamstring should really go soon.” Last season, his performance dipped after his groin injury, but this year he has been more productive, hitting .276 with seven home runs over 51 games.
Roberts also highlighted the need for patience this time around, humorously acknowledging the past misjudgment. Hernández echoed this sentiment, promising to take the necessary time to ensure he returns fully fit to support the team throughout the remainder of the season.
