Texas A&M's Bucky McMillan Among Highest-Paid Coaches in College Basketball
Texas A&M is currently experiencing a surge of financial activity, with significant investments being made not only in its athletes but also in its coaching staff. Recent reports have revealed the lucrative contract extension for men’s basketball coach Bucky McMillan, who has quickly made a name for himself in the college basketball landscape.
In March, it was announced that McMillan would be staying on with the Aggies after leading the team to an impressive second-round appearance in the NCAA Tournament during his first season. This success is particularly notable given that he took charge of a team that had only one returning player and no returning offensive contributors, making his achievements even more commendable.
While it was previously known that McMillan's new contract would extend through 2032, further details have emerged regarding the financial aspects of the deal. His original contract, worth $16 million over five years, began at a base salary of $3 million and included annual increases of $100,000. With the extension, he will begin at a base salary of $4.1 million in 2026, marking a substantial $1 million increase from his earlier earnings.
Additionally, McMillan's new agreement will average around $4.35 million per year, maintaining his bonus structure while also boosting the salary pool for assistant coaches by $200,000 to a total of $2.4 million. As a result of this new deal, McMillan has ascended to the ranks of the top 30 highest-paid coaches in college basketball, an impressive feat for a coach who has only been with the program for a year.
