Chelsea players believe Xabi Alonso is the ideal candidate to become their next head coach with talks moving in the right direction according to reports.

Having sacked Liam Rosenior last month, the Blues are once again searching for another head coach and can’t afford to make the wrong appointment.

Rosenior was the second head coach to leave Stamford Bridge this season following the departure of Enzo Maresca in January.

Chelsea players believe Xabi Alonso is the ideal candidate

Chelsea’s sporting directors are currently conducting the search for a new head coach, and it’s been reported they want their new man in place before the start of the World Cup next month.

There’s understood to be a shortlist of five or six names, with Xabi Alonso said to be the preferred candidate, whilst Andoni Iraola is believed to be a strong contender.

Chelsea are said to have made checks on Marco Silva, Filipe Luis and Oliver Glasner, but they’re not thought to feature highly in the club’s thinking at this stage.

The Blues have reportedly held positive conversations with Alonso, and The Guardian have reported the players believe he’s the ideal candidate.

The report adds talks with Alonso’s camp are heading in the right direction, and the feeling in the dressing room is he’s the right man to get things back on track.
