Three Positives From the Week of May 10th

A huge week for the Guardians has them near the top of the American League standings. There was plenty to be happy about, both on and off the field this week.

Huge Series Win

After going 1-5 against the Cincinnati Reds in 2025, the Guardians are close to bringing the Ohio Cup back to Cleveland. They dropped the first game of the series 6-7, but had two huge wins over the weekend. Totalling 23 runs on 30 hits in the three game set, the bats were simply on fire. On top of a sweep of the Los Angeles Angels earlier in the week, the Guards went 5-1 in what was their best week of the season so far. They’re sitting in first place in the AL Central with a one game lead over the Chicago White Sox (are you as shocked as I am?) and third overall in the American League.

Team Celebrates 2016 Season

The Guardians spent this weekend’s series celebrating the 10-year anniversary of the team’s last World Series appearance. In Friday’s game, alumni Corey Kluber threw the first pitch to Yan Gomes. Also in attendance were Jason Kipnis, Andrew Miller, Lonnie Chisenhall, and more. The team gave out free shirts with the American League Championship rings on it on Friday, and the first 15,000 fans received a Rajai Davis bobblehead on Saturday. The only remaining member from that team, José Ramírez, got to catch up with his former teammates and remember the moments of that exciting year.

Heuer Makes Cleveland Debut

The Guardians announced on Wednesday that they would be calling up pitcher Codi Heuer after optioning Franco Aleman back to Columbus. The 2018 sixth round draft pick (of the Chicago White Sox) has jumped around between five different Major League teams since making his debut in 2020, and hasn’t quite been able to find stability. He has a career 3.69 ERA with 88 strikeouts in 97.2 innings. In his Guardians debut Sunday, he entered with a 10-2 lead in the eighth inning. While he gave up one run, he was able to close out the win for the Guards after giving up three hits and one walk. He also struck out two.

Social Media Spotlight

This week’s Social Media Spotlight belongs my wonderful co-hosts of the Caught Lookin’ podcast. While I, sadly, was not able to attend, numerous others from the Caught Lookin’ crew attended Saturday’s game and received a special Guardians welcome on the scoreboard. This is my shameless self-promo – GO LISTEN TO CAUGHT LOOKIN’!
