Tkachuk Brothers and Logan Paul Kick Off UFC Freedom 250 Festivities at the White House

WASHINGTON (AP) — Hockey player Matthew Tkachuk expressed his anticipation for some thrilling showdowns at the White House, stating, “It’s going to be the under in every single fight. I think it’s not going to last like halfway through. They’re all going to be knockouts or finishes early.” Tkachuk, along with his brother Brady, took part in the pre-fight celebrations for UFC Freedom 250, a mixed martial arts event held on the South Lawn in honor of President Donald Trump's 80th birthday.

While VIPs gathered around the Octagon, a lively watch party unfolded on the Ellipse, the spacious lawn situated between the White House and the Washington Monument. The Tkachuk brothers engaged with the audience, sharing their enthusiasm for UFC. Logan Paul also made an appearance, adding to the excitement, which peaked when UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland arrived, prompting a surge of fans eager to see him. However, Strickland’s visit led to some commotion, and U.S. Park Police intervened, escorting him away but not citing or arresting him.

Initially, the weather posed a concern as dark clouds loomed over the event, leading to warnings displayed on video screens. Fortunately, the anticipated storms held off, allowing the festivities to continue without interruption. The crowd was treated to a thrilling flyover at the event's start, igniting a spirited “USA!” chant among attendees.

Fans at the Ellipse also enjoyed special moments when fighters returned to the stage to celebrate their victories. “Maybe the greatest experience of my life,” exclaimed Bo Nickal after his first-round knockout of Kyle Daukaus in a middleweight bout. “Just so much fun. I'm so grateful for the opportunity.”
