UCLA Falls to Texas Tech in Nail-Biting Nine-Inning Clash at WCWS

UCLA's hopes for a Women's College World Series continuation ended dramatically on Sunday night. In a thrilling nine-inning matchup, the Bruins were edged out by Texas Tech, suffering an 8-7 defeat despite a valiant effort from Jordan Woolery.

Woolery, who leads the nation in RBIs, showcased her power by hitting two home runs and driving in five runs during the game. In a crucial moment in the ninth inning, she connected with a pitch from former teammate Kaitlyn Terry to deliver a single that brought Rylee Slimp across the plate, narrowing the gap to just one run. However, Texas Tech's star pitcher NiJaree Canady stepped in to close out the game, successfully retiring the final two batters and leaving Megan Grant stranded on second base.

The Bruins initially faced challenges against Terry, who transferred to Texas Tech after last season's WCWS exit. Terry took over in the third inning and quickly found her rhythm, retiring 10 out of the first 11 batters she encountered. It wasn't until the seventh inning that UCLA managed to break through, scoring three runs to force extra innings. The comeback began with a powerful 270-foot home run from pinch-hitter Ramsey Suarez off Terry, followed by a crucial single from Jazmine Leyva against Canady. Woolery then tied the game with a stunning 267-foot homer over the center-field wall.

Despite their late-game surge, UCLA's season concluded with this loss, finishing with a record of 53-10. Meanwhile, Texas Tech, now at 59-8, is set to face Alabama in the next round of the tournament.
