UNC Baseball Sets Record with Third Consecutive Super Regional Appearance
As the University of North Carolina baseball team aims for its first College World Series title, they must first conquer the University of Southern California. The Diamond Heels are demonstrating strong potential after a successful run through the Chapel Hill Regional, where they defeated VCU in their opening match followed by two victories against in-state rival East Carolina. Their bullpen has been a key factor throughout the season, complemented by a lineup that consistently challenges opposing pitchers.
This marks the third consecutive year that UNC has hosted a Super Regional, a feat unmatched by any other program. Moreover, they are one of only two teams to reach this stage in the past three seasons. The upcoming Super Regional against USC, who triumphed over Texas A&M in the College Station Regional, is set to commence on Friday at 3 p.m. Fans can catch the opener live on ESPN2.
The teams will meet again on Saturday at 2 p.m., vying for a coveted spot in Omaha. Should a third game be necessary, it will take place on Sunday at a time to be determined. UNC’s journey to three straight Super Regional appearances began in 2024 with a swift sweep of West Virginia, followed by a mixed performance against Arizona in 2025.
USC arrives with a powerful offensive showing, having scored 59 runs in five games during their regional. Their pitching staff also excelled, allowing only 19 runs in the same span, indicating a formidable challenge for North Carolina’s hitters. However, the absence of home-field advantage for the Trojans could be pivotal, as the Diamond Heels benefit from the support of one of the most passionate crowds in college baseball.
