Who are Brewers probable pitchers vs Cubs? Jacob Misiorowski up next

CHICAGO – Jacob Misiorowski has been lighting up the radar guns unlike any other pitcher this season.

The Milwaukee Brewers right-hander also has tended to pitch his best in big moments.

It makes one wonder what might be in store Tuesday night, May 19 at Wrigley Field, where Misiorowski takes the mound against Ben Brown and the Central Division-rival Chicago Cubs at 6:40 p.m.

Brewers beat Cubs in first meeting of 2026

The Brewers enter with all sorts of momentum; they rode home runs from Christian Yelich and Jake Bauers and a strong tandem pitching performance from Brandon Sproat and Shane Drohan to a 9-3 victory in the series opener on Monday, May 18.

They've also won nine of their last 11 games to improve to 27-19 and pull within a half-game of the Cubs atop the standings.

How has Jacob Misiorowski pitched so far this season?

Misiorowski is coming off another great start in which he shut out the San Diego Padres over seven innings while striking out 10. He's 3-2 with a 2.12 earned run average and microscopic 0.90 WHIP (walks and hits per inning pitched) and has struck out 80 in 51 innings. That total ties him with Cristopher Sánchez of the Philadelphia Phillies for the major league lead.

His blistering velocity is what's been setting him apart from others, and his 49 pitches of 100-plus mph in that start against the Padres set a record. Overall, he's thrown 233 pitches and counting that have hit the century mark, which was 89 more than the rest of the starting pitchers in the majors combined after that outing.

Misiorowski enters tonight's matchup against the right-hander Brown with four double-digit strikeout games in nine starts, including two straight, and two other nine-strikeout efforts. More important, he's thrown 18⅓ consecutive scoreless innings over his last three starts, allowing six hits and four walks with 29 strikeouts.

Jacob Misiorowski vs. the Cubs in 2025

When speaking of Misiorowski's velocity, the mind wanders back to one of the last times he faced the Cubs – Game 2 of the National League Division Series at American Family Field on Oct. 6.

Pitching in relief, Misiorowski threw 31 pitches of 100 mph or more over three innings, including offerings of 104.3 and 104.2 nearly right out of the bullpen as he picked up for opener Aaron Ashby in the Brewers' eventual 7-3 victory.

Misiorowski's pitch of 104.3 turned out to be the second-fastest pitch ever thrown in the postseason in the pitch-tracking era, and his pitch of 104.2 was tied for third-fastest.

He made another appearance out of the bullpen, this time four innings, in the Brewers' 3-1 clinching victory in Game 5 and allowed four hits (including a home run), a run and two walks with seven strikeouts.

Against the Cubs in the regular season, however, Misiorowski didn't fare nearly as well, going 0-1 with a 5.62 ERA, WHIP of 1.13 and 12 strikeouts in eight innings over two starts.

Cubs starter Ben Brown vs. the Brewers

In three previous starts against the Brewers, Brown has been dominant with a 2-0 record, 1.00 ERA, 0.78 WHIP and 19 strikeouts over 18 innings. He was 2-0 in two starts against Milwaukee last season with a 1.64 ERA, WHIP of 1.09 and nine strikeouts in 11 innings.

Brown enters Tuesday night's game against the Brewers with a 1-1 record, 1.60 ERA and WHIP of 0.86 with 34 strikeouts over 33⅔ innings in 14 appearances this season.

Each of Brown's last two outings have been four-inning starts as the Cubs have dealt with numerous injuries to their pitching staff. His last turn was his best, a one-hit shutout effort with seven strikeouts against a potent Atlanta Braves lineup.

What is the pitching matchup for Brewers vs Cubs on Wednesday, May 20?

Left-hander Kyle Harrison will go for the Brewers on Wednesday, May 20 against Cubs right-hander Edward Cabrera.

Harrison enters with a 4-1 record and 2.09 ERA. He earned the victory In his last outing May 14 against the Padres, allowing five hits with no walks and seven strikeouts over 99 pitches in five innings.

Cabrera heads into the game with a 3-1 record and 4.06 ERA. He struggled in his last outing May 15 against the Chicago White Sox, allowing three runs on four hits with three walks and two strikeouts in 4⅔ innings.

In four appearances (three starts) against the Brewers as a member of the Miami Marlins, Cabrera was 1-2 with a 2.29 ERA and 20 strikeouts and eight walks over 19⅔ innings.

Harrison has pitched only once previously against the Cubs, with the San Francisco Giants in May 2025. He had two strikeouts in a one-inning relief role.
