Will Stein likes the state of Kentucky High School Football

Will Stein took the stage in Tampa on Monday as the SEC Media Days kicked off. With plenty of questions pouring in for the first-year head coach, one point was made to shout out the state of high school football, as the state is producing some top-tier talent in the next several high school classes.

“I think the state of Kentucky currently is as good as I’ve ever seen with high school recruiting. I mean, the games change so much. There’s better teams throughout the state. You know, I don’t know how many Division I players there are in this class, but you know, we got four or five of them committed to us right now from Kentucky,” said Stein.

“There’s probably 15 kids in the state this year, and there’s another crew next year. So I believe the state of Kentucky is definitely picking up in terms of high school talent and just players in general.”

One of the major arguments against Kentucky while playing in the SEC has been the state’s ability to produce talent. You look at Georgia, Florida, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, and South Carolina. For the Cats to keep pushing forward in the league, the local talent has to start producing. We are now seeing that with players in the classes of 2027 and 2028.

On the flip side, that also means Will Stein and his staff will have to do all they can to ensure the talent stays in the state. Once a strength of Mark Stoops and Vince Marrow, we will now see if the new regime in Lexington can keep it rolling.
