3 takeaways from Alabama's weekend games at the Frisco Classic

Alabama baseball had a very successful weekend at the Frisco College Baseball Classic in Texas over the past few days.

The Tide held an overall record of 2-1 throughout the event. Alabama was able to secure wins against Iowa and Oregon State prior to dropping Sunday’s matchup to Houston by a score of 8-2, as the Tide have gotten off to excellent start to the 2026 campaign in February.

Here are three takeaways from the Tide’s series at the Frisco Classic this past weekend.

Tyler Fay shines on the mound against Iowa

Fay has been nothing short of elite to begin the 2026 season throughout the first month of play. The talented pitcher threw six solid innings during Alabama’s 12-2 victory over Iowa, as Fay earned himself his second win of the campaign with an excellent outing on Friday.

The redshirt junior surrendered just one earned run on five hits and one walk against the Hawkeyes, as Fay continues to play a massive role on the mound for the Tide.

Peyton Steele thrives in the outfield

Steele made arguably one of the most important plays of Alabama’s season so far in the 8-7 victory over Oregon State on Saturday. The talented outfielder made a massive play in right field during the 9th inning, as Steele was able to gun down the game tying run and help the Tide hold on to their 8-7 lead.

Steele has been electric at both the plate and in the outfield this season, as the talented playmaker continues to make a name for himself in Tuscaloosa.

Alabama’s bats go cold against Houston

The Tide were unable to secure the weekend sweep against the Cougars following a 2-0 start to the series in Frisco. Alabama was unable to get things going offensively against Houston, as the Cougars’ pitching was able to take full advantage of an underwhelming performance from the Tide on Sunday afternoon.

Alabama was named as the 2026 Frisco College Baseball Classic champions following their overall recorded of 2-1, as the Tide continue to roll throughout the first month of the season.

Alabama will host Jacksonville State on Tuesday afternoon in Tuscaloosa, as the Tide will look to get back in the win column following the loss to Houston.
