Adam Silver Acknowledges Donald Trump's True Loyalty to the Knicks

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver has labeled President Donald Trump as a "genuine" supporter of the New York Knicks, indicating that his attendance at Game 3 of the NBA Finals is a positive experience for fans. Trump is attending the game as a guest of Knicks owner James Dolan, marking the first time the Finals have returned to Madison Square Garden since 1999.

In remarks made prior to the game, Silver expressed that Trump’s presence should be embraced. “He’s welcome to be here,” Silver stated. He emphasized the unifying power of sports, especially in times of division, saying, “What makes sports so special... is it’s something that we have in common.”

Trump, known for attending various sporting events during his presidency, has a longstanding relationship with the Knicks, having held courtside seats and frequently being a presence at games and NBA drafts. Silver noted, “So he’s a genuine Knicks fan.”

However, the former president's attendance necessitated increased security measures, with fans advised to arrive at least two hours early due to heightened security protocols. The area surrounding Madison Square Garden was also secured, limiting both vehicle and pedestrian access ahead of Trump’s arrival.

Despite the added inconvenience for some fans, Silver remarked on the turnout, stating, “Yes, there’s some inconvenience to the fans here but looking around at the arena, it’s packed.” He reiterated the importance of using sports to foster community connections rather than detract from them.
