Adam Silver Expresses Regret Over Ongoing James Dolan-Charles Oakley Dispute During NBA Finals
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver voiced his disappointment regarding the ongoing feud between New York Knicks owner James Dolan and former player Charles Oakley, especially during a time when the Knicks are celebrating their return to the NBA Finals after nearly three decades. Silver's comments came ahead of Game 1 of the Finals at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio.
Despite attempts by both Silver and basketball legend Michael Jordan to mend fences, the discord between Dolan and Oakley persists. Oakley, a beloved figure in Knicks history, has been estranged from the organization since his controversial ejection from Madison Square Garden in February 2017, which was followed by a lawsuit against Dolan and Madison Square Garden Entertainment.
The legal battle has complicated matters, as Silver noted, “As you know, it’s currently wrapped up in litigation. I tried my best. So I don’t really see anything else I can do at the moment.”
The absence of Oakley during this significant moment for the franchise is felt deeply. Silver highlighted the presence of Knicks legends like Patrick Ewing and Walt Frazier at the games, emphasizing the importance of a united community within the league. “I think that’s one of the things that makes this league so special is this family environment that we have,” he added.
