Missouri announced Monday morning that star RB Ahmad Hardy was shot early Sunday at a concert and is recovering in stable condition after undergoing surgery.

Hardy, a transfer from Louisiana-Monroe last year, was one of the nation's most productive running backs in his first season with the Tigers, rushing for 1,649 yards and 16 touchdowns in 13 games and cementing himself as a likely first-round NFL Draft prospect in 2027.

Hardy opted to return to Missouri for his junior season rather than enter the transfer portal, entering the offseason as one of the most exciting returning players in the SEC.

2:45 p.m. — Hardy was shot in the left leg, On3 reports. The incident occurred at Kamakazie Biker Club in Laurel, Mississippi, in what Lauren Police called a "melee." The concert included at least a couple of rappers and "drew a large crowd," Laurel Police told On3.

10:00 a.m. — Missouri released a statement Monday revealing Hardy sustained a gunshot wound early Sunday morning at a concert in Mississippi and underwent surgery. He is in stable condition after undergoing surgery on Sunday.

The program didn't say where in the body Hardy was struck, nor did the Tigers indicate the seriousness of the wound. An individual can be in a critical or serious condition while also being considered stable.

"Ahmad is deeply loved by his teammates, coaches, friends, family and fans," Missouri said. "We will continue to stand beside him and his family through this difficult time, offering our love, prayers, strength and support."

Missouri said Hardy's timeline to return to football activities is unknown, which at least indicates the Tigers expect him to get back on the field at some point. ESPN's Pete Thamel reported Monday that there is "optimism that Ahmad Hardy will play football again," adding that Hardy is "alert today and moving around."

Hardy led all Power Four players with 1,649 rushing yards in 2025, averaging 6.4 yards per game and scoring 16 touchdowns on the ground for Missouri.

While struggles in big games generally kept Hardy from entering the heart of the Heisman Trophy conversation, he was expected to enter 2026 as one of the nation's top offensive weapons and a potential Heisman contender in addition to a possible first-round pick.
