Alan Haller Takes on Senior Role with NFL After MSU Tenure
Alan Haller, the former athletic director of Michigan State University, has embraced a new career path within the sports sector, transitioning from college athletics to the NFL. The league has appointed Haller as the Senior Director of Collegiate Flag Football Development, a role that will see him manage the NFL's initiatives in flag football.
The NFL has set aside an investment of up to $32 million for the establishment of a new professional league, as flag football prepares for its inaugural appearance in the Olympics during the 2028 games in Los Angeles. Haller's focus will be on expanding flag football's reach, particularly at the collegiate level and among women.
Reflecting on his new position, Haller shared on LinkedIn, “I am grateful for the opportunity to help lead the growth of one of the fastest-growing sports in the world, especially at the collegiate level and for women. Building programs, strengthening partnerships, and expanding opportunities for student-athletes is work that truly matters to me. I’m honored to step into this role and excited for what’s ahead as we continue advancing the game and creating new pathways for the next generation of athletes.”
A notable figure in Michigan State's history, Haller was a standout player for the Spartans before spending three years in the NFL. His career took roots in law enforcement before he transitioned to Michigan State's athletic department, where he served from 2010 until his dismissal in 2022.
