Ancelotti Celebrates Dominant Victory Over Panama: “A Significant Confidence Boost”
Coach Carlo Ancelotti hailed the 6-2 victory against Panama as a “tremendous injection of confidence” just ahead of the Brazilian national team’s departure for the World Cup in the United States. The match, held at the iconic Maracanã Stadium, drew a crowd of over 72,000 fans, marking a bittersweet farewell before the team heads to New Jersey on Monday, July 1.
“It was a beautiful night, we have to thank the fans for the atmosphere they created,” Ancelotti stated during a post-match press conference. He emphasized the positive start the team made, noting their strong attitude and commitment on the field. "The work started well in these days, but the work is not only commitment and attitude; it is about being strong, resilient, every day, whether in good or bad moments, in order to finish well,” he added.
The friendly match saw Brazil leading at halftime with a score of 2-1, thanks to strikes from Vinicius Jr. and Casemiro. In the second half, with most of the squad substituted—only Léo Pereira played the full match—the Seleção significantly increased their lead, ultimately finishing at 6-2.
Ancelotti noted that the game highlighted the competitiveness among the 26 players selected for the World Cup, while also pointing out areas for improvement, particularly in the first half. “The performance in the second half was important for the team, for the players who came on, who showed quality,” he remarked. However, he cautioned that the opposition’s reduced intensity allowed for more opportunities to shine, indicating there is still work to be done as they prepare for the tournament.
