East Greenwich Girls Lacrosse Powers Through to Championship Match with Strong Second Half

EAST GREENWICH — The East Greenwich girls lacrosse team showcased their tenacity on Wednesday evening, overcoming an early deficit to secure a decisive 16-9 victory against Barrington in the Division I semifinals. Tessa Charello-Ingegneri led the charge for the Avengers, who quickly shifted the momentum at Carcieri Stadium.

After falling behind 5-1 in the first quarter, East Greenwich rallied back to tie the game 6-6 at halftime. The turning point came just 19 seconds into the third quarter when Charello-Ingegneri scored, igniting a powerful performance that would see the Avengers take control for the remainder of the match. Charello-Ingegneri finished with an impressive eight goals, supported by Ava Halvorsen, who contributed a hat trick, while Rell Ambler and Courtney Cavanaugh each added two goals.

“When we came together after the first quarter, we just kind of collected ourselves,” Charello-Ingegneri reflected. “We told each other to focus, slow it down, look for the open person and make the right play.” This strategy proved effective as the Avengers established dominance on the field, propelling them to their first title match appearance since 2023.

East Greenwich's defense, led by Lindsey Rowe and Maddie Asay, played a vital role in countering Barrington's initial surge. They focused their efforts on limiting the impact of Ashley DaCosta, who scored five goals but found it increasingly difficult as the match progressed. “I think we just started communicating a lot better and working a lot better together,” Rowe noted.

The Avengers will now face off against Moses Brown, who secured a spot in the championship after a convincing 16-2 victory over La Salle. East Greenwich aims to avenge their only loss of the season, a 17-5 defeat against the Quakers earlier this month. “I think that was just a learning opportunity for us,” Charello-Ingegneri said, expressing confidence in her team's preparation for the rematch.
