Angel Reese Breaks WNBA Double-Double Record in Victory Over Chicago Sky

Angel Reese, a forward for the Atlanta Dream, has made a significant mark in the WNBA by achieving a remarkable milestone. On Tuesday, in the Dream's 82-75 triumph against the Chicago Sky, she tallied her 57th career double-double, matching her points with rebounds—17 each—while also contributing four assists and two steals. This achievement sets a new record for the most double-doubles a player has accumulated in their first 75 games in WNBA history.

Reese’s record-breaking performance ties her with NBA star Blake Griffin for the second-most double-doubles in the same time frame, with only Shaquille O'Neal, an LSU alumnus like Reese, surpassing her with 63. Tim Duncan and David Robinson, both legends of the game, each recorded 53 double-doubles during their initial 75 games.

Despite her impressive record, Reese emphasized that team success is her priority. "I mean it doesn't matter unless I get a win," she stated post-game. "I'm really happy to be with the Dream. I'm really excited and we continue to march on for this Commissioner Cup." This victory marked the Dream's 11th win of the season, further showcasing Reese's impact since joining the team.

Currently, Reese is enjoying her third consecutive season averaging a double-double, with 13.6 points and 12.2 rebounds per game across 11 contests. She leads the league in rebounds and offensive rebounds, sharing the highest number of double-doubles this season with Aneesah Morrow from the Connecticut Sun.

Reese, who was traded to the Dream after two successful seasons in Chicago, expressed her excitement about returning to her former team. "I have a lot of great memories here, so it's always good to see familiar faces," she said. Furthermore, she credited Dream head coach Karl Smesko for his guidance in enhancing her rebounding and shooting skills.

This season has been particularly notable for Reese, as she also became the fastest player in WNBA history to reach 900 rebounds and scored her 1,000th career point earlier this month. Her continued excellence on the court is setting the stage for a promising future.
