Angels' Bottom Order Overwhelms Dodgers' Elite Pitching Staff

In an unexpected turn of events, Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Emmet Sheehan struggled to contain the Los Angeles Angels' lower batting order during a game at Dodger Stadium on Sunday. This marked a notable shift from the Dodgers’ typically dominant pitching performance throughout the season, as Sheehan and four out of six relief pitchers faltered against the visiting team.

Heading into the matchup, the Dodgers' starting rotation had allowed just one run over their last 27 innings. However, Sheehan found himself in a bind early on, particularly after facing the bottom of the Angels' lineup. “Frustrating, definitely couldn’t put guys away,” Sheehan expressed to the media post-game. “Not efficient, not good.”

The issues began when Nolan Schanuel struck out on five pitches to start the second inning. Sheehan was then pushed to deliver 30 pitches to the next four batters, beginning with Jo Adell’s single on a crucial 3-2 count. This was followed by a lengthy 14-pitch walk from Nick Madrigal, which was aided by a mishap from right fielder Kyle Tucker, who dropped a foul ball. A controversial call saw Jose Siri walk after it appeared he had foul-tipped a fastball into the glove of catcher Dalton Rushing, but the umpire ruled there was no contact.

Backup catcher Sebastian Rivero, batting ninth, had a breakout performance, going 5-for-5 and driving in six runs. Adell also shined with four hits and four runs scored, while Siri contributed three hits along with two runs and two RBIs, leading the Angels to a decisive 13-5 victory. The Dodgers, who hold the top team earned-run average at 3.01, were unable to contain the bottom four batters in the Angels' lineup, who collectively went an impressive 13-for-15 with 10 runs and 10 RBIs.
