Angels Overpowered by Diamondbacks Following Corbin Carroll's Grand Slam

The Los Angeles Angels opened their game against the Arizona Diamondbacks on a high note, but their momentum quickly faded. Zach Neto kicked things off with a solo home run in the first inning, marking the only time an Angel crossed home plate during the contest.

Diamondbacks pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez was sharp throughout the game, pitching seven innings in which he allowed just six hits, one earned run, and three walks, while striking out five batters. In contrast, Sam Aledgheri, who had recently performed well against the Tampa Bay Rays, struggled on the mound for Los Angeles.

Aledgheri initially escaped the first inning unscathed, despite a single and a walk, but the second inning proved disastrous. After a leadoff walk, Tommy Troy tripled to score Arizona's first run. Following a hit by pitch and another walk, Corbin Carroll stepped up to the plate and delivered a thrilling moment for the home crowd. With the count at 1-1, Aledgheri threw a poorly placed changeup, which Carroll sent soaring for his fifth career grand slam, extending the Diamondbacks' lead to 5-1.

Troy added another run in the third inning, and Aledgheri's day ended after three innings, during which he surrendered six earned runs on six hits while walking three and striking out only one. His ongoing control issues pose a challenge for his bid to secure a permanent spot in the Angels' rotation.

Offensively, the Angels struggled to capitalize on scoring opportunities. Despite having seven runs in the previous day’s game, they could not muster any offense beyond Neto's homer, going 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position and leaving five on base. Ultimately, the Diamondbacks cruised to an 8-1 victory, sealing the series win against Los Angeles.
