Moroccan Fans Rally in Boston Ahead of Friday's Match Against Scotland
As the excitement builds for the upcoming match at Boston Stadium, a vibrant wave of Moroccan supporters is arriving in the city. They are gathering to prepare for their team’s clash with Scotland on Friday. On Wednesday evening, fans congregated outside Boston City Hall, energetically chanting and uniting in celebration. "Honestly, the atmosphere is unbelievable," remarked Yassina Baliag, a devoted fan.
Whether they hail from Boston or have traveled from abroad, these fans are embracing their shared passion for soccer. "Seeing all these Moroccan fans showing up here, you know, celebrating and supporting our team is something special, and that’s what the World Cup is all about," Baliag continued. Another fan, Aziz Baoussouh, echoed this sentiment, saying, "It’s fun to have fun and peace and to be together, to celebrate together."
Some fans are still on the hunt for tickets to the match, with prices becoming a significant hurdle. "With the prices increasing, it’s very, very hard to find the tickets with affordable prices," shared Anas Bendekkour. However, many have devised alternative plans to ensure they can enjoy the game. "There’s a big watch party in Revere where all Moroccans are gonna get together because we have a big Moroccan community in Revere," Baliag explained.
Despite the challenge of competing with the larger Scottish crowd already in Boston, Moroccan fans remain optimistic. Fatima Baoussouh noted, "The Scotland fans have been here for a while, so they outnumber us, but we’ve still got time to grow our fan base." Baliag added, "I know it’s been a lot of talk about Scotland... but I gotta tell you, we have a big Moroccan community."
Across the street, Scottish fans are enjoying the atmosphere but have their own concerns, such as running out of beverages. "It’s great, the only problem is you keep running out of alcohol," said Scott Paterson, a Scotland supporter. Paul Devoy, another Scottish fan, acknowledged the competitive spirit, stating, "I think they’ll both be equally as passionate... the Morocco team [is] better than us, which is a worry." As the match approaches, both fan bases are eager to share in the excitement of the event, with the game kicking off at 6 p.m. on Friday.
