Arkansas Baseball Secures Big West Pitcher Michael Malki as Potential Weekend Starter

In a significant addition to their roster, Arkansas baseball has welcomed Michael Malki, a standout pitcher from the Big West Conference, via the transfer portal. Malki announced his commitment to the Razorbacks on Wednesday, June 17, marking a busy day for the program as he became the third player to join on that date.

The 6-foot right-handed pitcher had an impressive season with Cal Bakersfield, where he solidified his position as the team's ace by April. In 2026, Malki achieved an undefeated record of 11-0 and posted a 3.12 ERA. Over the course of 75 innings, he recorded 111 strikeouts while allowing only 37 walks, showcasing his dominance on the mound with an exceptional home-run rate of just 0.7 per nine innings.

Malki is the latest and most accomplished starting pitcher added to Arkansas' transfer class for 2026, becoming the seventh pitcher to commit this offseason. Other new additions include Connor Udland from Houston, Luke Neiswonger from Central Michigan, Brayden Krenzel from Tennessee, Ridge Harvey from Belmont, Micah Henson from Crowder College, and Lance Alexander from Johnson County Community College. Notably, Udland also committed to the Razorbacks on the same day.

Described by Perfect Game as having a powerful fastball that typically sits in the low 90s, Malki complements this with two effective off-speed pitches: a curveball and a changeup. He particularly shined in April, where he struck out 33 batters while allowing only two earned runs across three games against Abilene Christian, UT Arlington, and Tarleton State.

However, Malki faces the possibility of being drafted, as he is a draft-eligible sophomore nearing his 21st birthday. Arkansas will be hopeful that he chooses to forgo professional opportunities to join the team for his junior season. If he does arrive on campus, he could potentially round out a strong weekend rotation alongside Carson Wiggins and returning junior Cole Gibler, who made five starts in 2026.
