Aryna Sabalenka Offers Support to Mirra Andreeva Ahead of French Open Final
In a remarkable turn of events at the 2026 French Open, Mirra Andreeva has captured headlines by advancing to her first Grand Slam final. The 19-year-old’s journey has been marked by significant victories, especially as world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka, who faced an unexpected exit, publicly supported her.
As the eighth seed, Andreeva’s path to the final included wins over notable players such as Fiona Ferro and Jil Teichmann. Her quarterfinal match saw her conquer No. 18 seed Sorana Cîrstea with a commanding score of 6-0, 6-3, setting the stage for a highly anticipated semifinal against No. 15 seed Marta Kostyuk. In a rematch of their recent Madrid Open final, Andreeva turned the tables on Kostyuk, winning decisively 6-1, 6-3, and ending Kostyuk’s impressive 17-match winning streak.
While Andreeva thrived, Sabalenka’s hopes were dashed when she was defeated by No. 25 seed Diana Shnaider in a quarterfinal match, losing 3-6, 7-5, 6-0. Despite her own disappointment, Sabalenka took to social media to encourage Andreeva, posting, “Let’s go 🔥🙌.”
Andreeva also received warm wishes from actress Lily Collins and former world No. 1 Victoria Azarenka, both expressing excitement for her achievement. As she prepares for the final against qualifier Maja Chwalińska, Andreeva admitted she is not familiar with Chwalińska’s game but anticipates an engaging match. “It’s going to be very entertaining, very interesting, as well, because obviously I have never played against her,” she stated.
In the meantime, Andreeva’s coach, Conchita Martinez, has been actively scouting Chwalińska, who recently defeated Shnaider to secure her place in the final. The stage is set for an exciting showdown at the French Open.
