A's Dominate Angels 5-0 as Gage Jump Shines on the Mound

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — Gage Jump delivered an impressive performance, allowing just one hit over seven innings, while the Oakland Athletics powered through with five runs in the first inning, securing a 5-0 win against the Los Angeles Angels on Thursday night.

The Athletics began the game explosively, as the first six batters reached base against Ryan Johnson, who had just been called up from Double-A Rocket City. This game was particularly significant for the Angels, who placed their star outfielder Mike Trout on the 10-day injured list due to a right hamstring strain prior to the matchup.

Zack Gelof initiated the offensive surge with a single, extending his hitting streak to an impressive 22 games, the longest active streak in Major League Baseball. Nick Kurtz added to the momentum with a double before Shea Langeliers launched a three-run homer 430 feet to center field, marking his 19th of the season. Tyler Soderstrom quickly followed suit with his own home run, bringing his season total to 13.

After Langeliers and Soderstrom's back-to-back homers, Jacob Wilson and Jonah Heim also contributed with singles. Johnson (0-2) finally recorded his first out of the inning with a fly ball from Carlos Cortes, which advanced Wilson to third. A sacrifice fly from Henry Bolte capped the scoring at 5-0.

This win marks a significant moment for the Athletics as they continue to build momentum this season.
