A’s Stage Comeback to Secure 10-Inning Victory Over Cubs

In a thrilling matchup at Wrigley Field, the Oakland Athletics triumphed over the Chicago Cubs 5-4 in ten innings, showcasing resilience to even the series at one game apiece. The contest unfolded as the second of three games in this midweek series, with the A's initially seizing an early lead before falling behind.

The Athletics struck first when right fielder Carlos Cortes hit an infield single to kick off the game. First baseman Nick Kurtz walked, and despite attempts by the Cubs to execute double plays, both runners reached base safely. Cortes crossed home plate on a groundout by Tyler Soderstrom, giving Oakland a 1-0 advantage.

However, the Cubs responded with a solo home run from Seiya Suzuki in the second inning, narrowing the gap. The home team took control in the third with a two-run shot by Pete Crow-Armstrong, marking a shift in momentum as they established a 4-2 lead. In the tenth, after moving a ghost runner to third base, Kurtz delivered a crucial single, scoring Alika Williams and restoring the A's lead. Pitcher Justin Sterner then secured the win by striking out two batters to end the game. The A's will aim to clinch the series in their next outing, with right-hander J.T. Ginn set to take the mound.
