Auburn's Ja'Kobe Tharp Shatters 110-Meter Hurdles World Record at NCAA Championships

In a stunning display of athletic prowess, Auburn University's Ja'Kobe Tharp established a new world record in the 110-meter hurdles during the NCAA Track and Field Championships at Hayward Field. Competing in the semifinals on June 10, the junior clocked an impressive time of 12.75 seconds, surpassing the previous record of 12.80 seconds set by Aries Merritt in 2012.

Tharp, who is well-acquainted with the competitive atmosphere in Eugene, expressed his disbelief at the record-breaking performance. "I felt fast running the race, and I planned on giving my 100%, but I was shocked at the result," he remarked. This achievement adds to his accolades as the reigning outdoor NCAA champion in the 110 hurdles.

In addition to his individual success, Tharp contributed to the Auburn team’s endeavors earlier in the week by helping their 4x100 relay team establish a new collegiate record with a time of 37.75 seconds during the preliminary heats.

The excitement continues as Tharp prepares to compete in the final event scheduled for 5:42 p.m. on Friday. His performance thus far has set high expectations for the championship.
