Basketball Legend Rick Adelman Dies at 79

Rick Adelman, a celebrated Hall of Fame basketball coach, passed away at the age of 79, as announced on Monday evening. Renowned for his successful tenure with the Portland Trail Blazers, Adelman led the team to two Western Conference championships alongside star player Clyde Drexler.

Adelman’s coaching career also included a notable four-year stint with the Houston Rockets from 2007 to 2011. During his time in Houston, he guided the team to a commendable record of 193 wins and 135 losses, achieving a .588 winning percentage over 328 games while working with legends like Tracy McGrady and Yao Ming.

In addition to his coaching accomplishments, Adelman had a brief playing career in the NBA, having been selected in the seventh round of the 1968 NBA Draft by the franchise then known as the San Diego Rockets, where he was the 79th overall pick. His legacy in basketball continues through his son, David Adelman, who is currently the head coach of the Denver Nuggets.

The basketball community mourns the loss of a significant figure whose impact on the sport will be remembered for years to come.
