Eintracht Frankfurt's Nathaniel Brown has quickly become a key target for Bayern Munich this summer. The Rekordmeister is particularly keen on securing his services after missing out on Anthony Gordon and withdrawing from the race for Kennet Eichhorn. Although adding a defender wasn't initially a priority for Bayern in this transfer window, the opportunity to acquire Brown has prompted management to reconsider.
According to Florian Plettenberg of Sky Sports, discussions between Frankfurt and Bayern are currently progressing positively. Regular communications between Frankfurt sporting director Markus Krösche and Bayern's sports board member Max Eberl have reportedly yielded constructive outcomes, despite previous reports indicating Bayern's reluctance to exceed an offer of just over €50 million, while Frankfurt seeks at least €60 million. Brown remains focused on representing Germany in the World Cup, yet both clubs are increasingly hopeful that an agreement could be reached, whether before or after the tournament begins.
If a deal materializes soon, arrangements could be made for Brown to undergo his medical examination in the United States while he is with the German national team during the World Cup, with group stage matches scheduled in Houston, Toronto, and East Rutherford, New Jersey.
In a related development, Frankfurt is nearing an agreement to acquire Bayern's Noël Aséko, who recently had a loan stint at Hannover 96 in the 2. Bundesliga. However, Frankfurt has explicitly stated that they do not wish to include Aséko in any swap deal for Brown. While the proceeds from Aséko's transfer could indirectly impact the financial aspects of Brown's acquisition, both clubs view these transactions as distinct.
Bayern's strong interest in Brown raises questions about the future of Alphonso Davies. Once a reliable option for the left-back position, Davies has faced significant injury challenges in the past season. The potential addition of Brown could complicate Davies's standing in the squad.
