The season unfolded in three distinct phases. In the initial stage, Bayern's U-19s faced a rocky start, suffering an early elimination against Hansa Rostock in the Junior DFB Pokal. Despite leading 2-0, they were unable to maintain their advantage, ultimately falling in a penalty shootout. This defeat marked a disappointing trend, as it was the second consecutive season the team exited in the first round of the domestic cup. However, they quickly regrouped in the league, winning five of their first six matches, highlighted by a remarkable 7-1 victory over Stuttgarter Kickers. A frustrating 2-2 draw against SpVgg Unterhaching and a narrow 1-0 loss to 1860 Munich marred their progress, but they later avenged those defeats. Despite some slip-ups, a final 3-2 win over SC Freiburg secured their top position in the group, albeit with defensive struggles evident throughout.
During the second phase, Bayern's performance became precarious. After a disappointing start with a 2-0 loss to Kaiserslautern, they bounced back to crush Hannover 5-1. However, inconsistency plagued the squad; they managed only two victories from eight matches, with three losses and three draws. On the brink of elimination, Bayern needed a strategic draw against Borussia Mönchengladbach to stay in contention, ultimately achieving a 2-2 result. A crucial 3-3 draw against Rasenballsport Leipzig, salvaged by a late goal from Bogdan Olychenko, allowed them to barely advance to the knockout stage.
In the decisive third phase, Bayern faced a daunting challenge as they were matched against last season's champions, FC Köln. The contest proved to be a lopsided affair, with Bayern succumbing to a 4-0 defeat by halftime. This marked the end of their campaign, resulting in a disappointing exit from the tournament.
Throughout the season, Bayern's offense displayed notable strength, with 32 goals scored in the initial phase and continuing to lead the group in the second phase with 29 goals. However, defensive deficiencies were a recurring theme, as they failed to secure a single clean sheet across all competitive matches. As head coach Peter Gaydarov noted, "We created a large number of excellent scoring opportunities in almost every game. However, we didn’t always capitalize on them." The season revealed both the potential and pitfalls of the young squad, setting the stage for future improvements.
