Bennett Berge Claims Gold at U23 Pan American Championships

June 17—LIMA, Peru — Bennett Berge has once again showcased his wrestling prowess by securing the gold medal in the 86 kg category at the U23 Pan American Championships held on June 11 in Lima, Peru. The 2021 graduate of Kasson-Mantorville High School put forth an impressive performance, dominating his competition throughout the tournament.

As he prepares for his final season at Oklahoma State University after spending four years at South Dakota State University, Berge showcased his skills with a flawless record of 5-0. His victories included four technical falls without allowing a single point, alongside a pin, culminating in a decisive 10-0 win against two-time age-group Pan American medalist Alek Ortiz Roman from Puerto Rico in the championship match.

Not only did Berge remain undefeated, but he also earned the prestigious Golden Boot award, recognizing him as the tournament's most outstanding wrestler. This achievement comes just weeks after he claimed the U23 national title in Geneva, Ohio, where he recorded seven victories.

The U.S. team performed remarkably, with Berge being one of nine American champions. The team dominated the event, finishing with a total of 245 points, surpassing Puerto Rico, which scored 180 points, and Mexico, which garnered 100 points.
