Blue Jays Acquire Right-Hander Simeon Woods Richardson From Twins

The Toronto Blue Jays have reaffirmed their interest in right-handed pitcher Simeon Woods Richardson, marking the second time they have traded for him in his professional career. On Wednesday, the team announced the acquisition of Woods Richardson from the Minnesota Twins in exchange for cash considerations, following his designation for assignment by the Twins.

Woods Richardson, standing at 6-foot-3, was initially a highly regarded prospect with the New York Mets, before joining the Blue Jays in 2019 as part of the deal that sent Marcus Stroman to the Mets. He was later traded to the Twins in 2021 during the deal for José Berríos, but has now returned to Toronto after a challenging stint in Minnesota.

This season, Woods Richardson has struggled, posting an 0-7 record and a 7.74 ERA over 12 appearances, of which 10 were starts. In contrast, his performance last season was more promising, with a 4.04 ERA in 23 games. His overall MLB statistics show a career ERA of 4.76, complemented by 258 strikeouts across 302.1 innings pitched.

At just 25 years old, there is still potential for Woods Richardson to revitalize his career. The Blue Jays are hopeful that this reunion will provide him with the fresh start he needs to regain his form on the mound.
