Blue Jays Eyeing All-Star Pitcher to Strengthen Rotation Ahead of Trade Deadline
The Toronto Blue Jays are actively seeking to enhance their starting rotation as they approach the trade deadline, aiming to overcome the challenges they've faced this season due to injuries. Their recent struggles highlight the need for consistent performance on the mound.
One prominent name on their radar is Tarik Skubal, a two-time Cy Young Award winner currently with the Detroit Tigers. As reported by USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, the Tigers may soon be compelled to trade Skubal, leading to intense competition among four main contenders, including the Blue Jays, Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Yankees, and San Diego Padres, all of whom can manage his remaining $32 million contract.
If the Blue Jays cannot secure Skubal, they are also considering Minnesota Twins pitcher Joe Ryan as a viable alternative. Sports Illustrated's Curt Bishop noted that Ryan would be a valuable addition, particularly since Toronto has recently welcomed back key pitchers like Max Scherzer and Dylan Cease, but still faces the impact of injuries, including the season-ending loss of Cody Ponce.
The Blue Jays are determined to make a strong playoff run after narrowly missing the World Series title in recent years. With Ryan's contract at a manageable $6.2 million, he represents an attractive option for Toronto as they strive to bolster their chances in the postseason.
As the deadline approaches, the Blue Jays are poised to make impactful moves that could greatly influence their trajectory this October.
