Brewers' $51 Million Prospect Cooper Pratt Set for Major League Debut

The Milwaukee Brewers are about to see if their substantial investment in prospect Cooper Pratt will pay off. In April, the team committed $50.75 million to the 21-year-old shortstop by signing him to an eight-year contract extension, even before he made his Triple-A debut.

According to a source within the organization, Pratt is on his way to Milwaukee, as confirmed by MLB reporter Adam McCalvy. The young player was taken out of a June 14 game for the Nashville Sounds after five innings, a common indicator of an upcoming promotion. Social media buzz showed Pratt celebrating in the dugout, hinting at the exciting news.

In his inaugural season at Triple-A, Pratt has posted a batting line of .241/.349/.386, hitting six home runs and driving in 32 runs over 58 games. His performance has solidified his status as one of baseball’s top prospects, having been recognized as a consensus Top-100 player for the past two years and even participating in the 2024 Futures Game.

Defensively, Pratt has excelled as a shortstop, committing just two errors in 56 games, which translates to an impressive .991 fielding percentage. Originally drafted in the sixth round out of a Mississippi high school, he is currently ranked as the fourth-best prospect in the Brewers’ robust farm system.

At 6-foot-4, Pratt is expected to develop more power alongside his already strong plate discipline. With a strikeout rate of 14.3% and a walk rate of 13.8%, he demonstrates potential for solid contact against Major League pitching. His contract includes several club options for the 2034 and 2035 seasons, starting at $15 million, with incentives that could increase his earnings significantly.
