Brewers Secure Outfield Prospect Luis Lara with Long-Term Deal

MILWAUKEE (AP) — The Milwaukee Brewers have signed outfield prospect Luis Lara to a seven-year contract, furthering their strategy of locking in promising minor league talent. The agreement, which was announced on Tuesday, extends through 2032 and includes options for the seasons of 2033, 2034, and 2035. While the Brewers did not disclose the financial specifics, reports from ESPN, MLB.com, and the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel indicate that the contract guarantees Lara $31 million.

This signing follows closely on the heels of the Brewers' eight-year, $50.75 million deal with shortstop prospect Cooper Pratt, completed less than three months ago. “Luis is an exciting young talent, and we’re thrilled to commit to him long term,” said Matt Arnold, the Brewers' president of baseball operations. “He has proven to be one of the premier defensive outfielders in the minor leagues, and he has taken tremendous strides forward offensively this season. With support from ownership, we’re pleased to be able to lock in another key player for our future.”

Currently, Baseball America ranks Lara as the 50th best prospect in baseball, while MLB Pipeline places him at 91st. The 21-year-old has been enjoying a strong season at Triple-A Nashville, boasting a batting average of .338 along with seven home runs, 27 RBIs, and 18 stolen bases over 56 games. He has also excelled in the International League, ranking second in runs scored (49) and on-base percentage (.447), and placing among the top five in hits (69) and walks (39).

In the previous season, Lara earned a Gold Glove for his stellar defensive performance, finishing as one of the top three outfielders in the minors. During his 2025 campaign with Double-A Biloxi, he recorded a batting average of .257, with a .369 on-base percentage, two home runs, 40 RBIs, and 44 stolen bases across 136 games. Lara initially joined the Brewers in January 2022 after being signed from Venezuela.

Additionally, the Brewers have added Lara to their 40-man roster and have made a corresponding move by transferring left-handed pitcher Brian Fitzpatrick to the 60-day injured list.
