Broncos Release Two Players to Sign UFL Talent

The Denver Broncos have made a significant roster change by letting go of two recently signed players to make room for new acquisitions from the United Football League (UFL). This shift comes just weeks after the team secured contracts for the players based on their performances during minicamp.

In May, the Broncos hosted a rookie minicamp following the 2026 NFL Draft, where they evaluated a mix of rookies and veteran free agents. Among those who impressed were former Cleveland Browns wide receiver Michael Woods and undrafted free agent Paul Manning. However, both players have now been released as the Broncos brought in wide receiver Hakeem Butler and defensive back/kick returner Sean Fresch from the UFL.

Woods, drafted in the sixth round by the Browns in 2022, managed to record 12 receptions in his career. His chances of securing a spot on the Broncos roster were slim, but he was given an opportunity after a solid minicamp performance. Manning, who played cornerback at Henderson State, had similarly low expectations after going undrafted, but he earned a spot at the minicamp, which led to the release of Tennessee defensive back William Wright, whom the Broncos had signed shortly after the draft.

Butler, standing at 6 feet 5 inches, presents an enticing option for the red zone, while Fresch is primarily recognized for his return capabilities. With Marvin Mims Jr. entering a contract year, the Broncos may be looking ahead to their future roster needs.

As the Broncos prepare for training camp in about six weeks, more roster adjustments are likely. The team has had past success in acquiring players from the spring league, with Dondrea Tillman establishing himself as a valuable rotational pass-rusher over the last two seasons.
