Ravens Commit $1 Million to Combat Gun Violence in Baltimore

The Baltimore Ravens have announced a significant $1 million investment aimed at preventing gun violence, partnering with six local and national organizations that focus on prevention, crisis management, and long-term recovery solutions. This initiative was unveiled during the Baltimore Together: A Violence Prevention Summit held at M&T Bank Stadium, which gathered community leaders, healthcare professionals, and policymakers to discuss strategies for reducing violence and enhancing community welfare.

Hosted by the University of Maryland Medical System and the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, the summit emphasized collaborative efforts to address violence in Baltimore. Ravens president Sashi Brown stressed the team's commitment to tackling this pressing issue, stating, “Reducing gun violence is some of the most impactful work being done across our nation. It is life-saving work, and the progress here in Baltimore has been simply phenomenal.”

The funds will be allocated to various organizations, including the Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement, MedStar Health’s Hospital Violence Responder program, and Everytown for Gun Safety. The investment aims to enhance existing programs that have demonstrated success in reducing homicides and shootings within the city.

MedStar’s program will provide essential support for victims of violence, while Everytown will focus on conflict resolution and prevention training in local high schools. Roca Maryland will continue its outreach efforts aimed at young men at risk of engaging in violence, employing evidence-based strategies to foster positive change.

Mayor Brandon Scott expressed gratitude towards the Ravens for their contribution, highlighting the importance of building on the city’s recent achievements in reducing violent crime. The summit featured keynote speaker Thomas Abt, who is the founding director of the Center for the Study and Practice of Violence Reduction, along with various other officials and community leaders.

This investment aligns with the Ravens' ongoing commitment to community engagement, addressing one of Baltimore's most critical challenges and reinforcing the idea that effective violence prevention requires sustained efforts and collaborative partnerships.
