Bryson DeChambeau Launches Impressive 427-Yard Drive at U.S. Open
SOUTHAMPTON, New York — In a stunning display of power, Bryson DeChambeau unleashed a massive 427-yard drive during his opening round at the U.S. Open, marking it as the second-longest drive recorded on tour this season. “That’s my longest drive ever on tour, which is great,” DeChambeau remarked following his impressive shot.
The extraordinary drive occurred on the 12th hole, where it initially soared before rolling onto the pavement, propelling the distance to 427 yards. While this is a remarkable achievement, it falls just shy of his personal best of 428 yards, which he accomplished at the 2020 Travelers Championship under similar conditions.
This drive stands as the longest recorded at a U.S. Open since Bubba Watson hit a staggering 455 yards at Pebble Beach in 2019. Additionally, Wyndham Clark, who currently leads the tournament by four strokes, boasts the longest drive on tour this year at 446 yards, achieved during the Valspar Championship in March.
DeChambeau, who previously claimed the U.S. Open titles in 2020 and 2024, had a challenging start to the season, failing to make the cut in both the Masters and the PGA Championship, his only PGA Tour events this year as he primarily competes on the LIV circuit. As of now, he stands at 1 under par through 16 holes of his first round at Shinnecock, placing him in a tie for ninth.
“I’m feeling pretty good,” DeChambeau stated about his performance. Looking ahead to Friday's continuation of play, he quipped about his preparation, saying simply, “Chocolate milk.”
As the tournament unfolds, DeChambeau will face competition from notable players like Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy, both of whom are vying for J.J. Spaun’s U.S. Open title.
