Buffalo Bills Kick Off 2026 Minicamp with Key Updates and Tryouts

The Buffalo Bills commenced their mandatory three-day minicamp on June 9, with all players present, setting the stage for an eventful start to the week. Reports from various sources at One Bills Drive highlighted significant developments regarding the team’s roster, including injury updates and player tryouts.

A notable absence on the field was linebacker Dorian Williams, who was spotted using crutches and not participating in practice. ESPN's Bills reporter Alaina Getzenberg mentioned that this injury appears to be unrelated to the neck issue he sustained during last season's playoff game against the Denver Broncos. Head coach Joe Brady refrained from providing specific details about Williams' condition but expressed optimism that he would be ready for training camp and that the team would "reevaluate as necessary."

In addition to Williams, several other players, including safety Cole Bishop, defensive back Dorian Strong, right tackle Spencer Brown, and wide receivers Skyler Bell and Tyrell Shavers, did not participate. However, there was some positive news regarding outside linebacker Michael Hoecht, who actively took part in individual drills as he recovers from an Achilles injury sustained last season.

The Bills also welcomed two players for tryouts: offensive lineman Derek Simmons, a recent graduate from Oklahoma, and veteran wide receiver Deven Thompkins, who has previously played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Carolina Panthers, and Atlanta Falcons. Simmons, who stands 6'5" and weighs 317 pounds, brings experience from his time at Oklahoma, while Thompkins adds potential as a return specialist, having demonstrated speed and agility during his career.

As the first day of minicamp unfolded, left tackle Dion Dawkins hinted at a possible reunion with Stefon Diggs through social media, while running back James Cook III showcased his skills, indicating he is poised to maintain his momentum from last season's success. With quarterback Josh Allen engaging his teammates in signature handshakes, the Bills are clearly focused and ready to make the most of their offseason.
