Caitlin Clark calls out opponent for ‘flopping’ in frustrating loss

Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark (22) gets the crowd excited Saturday, May 9, 2026, during the second half of the Fever’s season opener game at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. The Dallas Wings defeated the Indiana Fever, 107-104.

Indiana Fever superstar Caitlin Clark is never one to shy away from showing emotion on the court, and that was the case once again on Saturday afternoon during the team’s season-opening showdown with the Dallas Wings.

During Saturday’s game, which prominently featured the past four No. 1 overall picks in the WNBA Draft, Clark had a strong showing in her return to the court after missing much of last year with an injury. Clark finished the game with 20 points, seven assists, and five rebounds in the season-opener, but it was not enough.

Despite Clark’s 20 points, the Fever fell to the Wings by a final score of 107-104 in what was often a frustrating game for Clark and the team. Clark turned the ball over five times in the loss, and three of those turnovers were offensive fouls called on the Fever superstar. And Clark made it pretty clear that she did not agree with many of those calls.

At one point in the game, Wings forward Aziaha James drew a charge on Clark, one of the three charges she was called for in the game. While James and her teammates celebrated the forced turnover, Clark could be seen expressing her frustration with the call.

“Flopping all [expletive] day,” Clark could be seen saying as she handed the ball back to the referee.

James’ teammates Jessica Shepard and Paige Bueckers could be seen smiling as they helped their teammate back to her feet amidst Clark’s complaints.

Adding to the frustrating game, Clark also missed a three-point shot that would have tied the game with seven seconds remaining.

It may not been the season-opener the team would have liked to have, but Clark and the Fever will have a chance to bounce back when they travel west to take on the Los Angeles Sparks in a game on Wednesday.
