Calais Campbell Eyes Final NFL Season with Ravens at Age 39
Calais Campbell has returned to the Baltimore Ravens for what he anticipates will be the final chapter of his illustrious NFL career in his 19th season. The veteran defensive lineman, a six-time Pro Bowler and three-time All-Pro, expressed uncertainty about his future, admitting, "This year, I feel as strongly as ever that this is probably going to be my last year." He added, “I know I said that last year and the year before. I genuinely mean it at the time, but I always tell myself to play well enough to be able to get a job again if I want to.”
With a career that boasts over $150 million in earnings, Campbell returned to the NFL last season after a stint with the Arizona Cardinals, the team that drafted him and where he experienced a Super Bowl appearance as a rookie following the 2008 season. When asked why he continues to play at 39, Campbell's response was straightforward: he loves football. “I think the only answer I can really say is I love the game. I love it. I’m still fairly good at it. And they still want me to play. So why not?”
Campbell has consistently proven his value on the field, starting nearly every game since his debut and recording more than five sacks in each of the last four seasons. With his return to the Ravens, a team he previously played for from 2020 to 2022, he hopes to make a significant impact. One of his career goals remains elusive: despite playing in a Super Bowl, he has yet to secure a championship ring. This season, he aims to help the Ravens achieve their first Super Bowl victory during the Lamar Jackson era, potentially crafting a memorable conclusion to his football journey.
