Canada Triumphs Over Qatar with Historic 6-0 Victory in 2026 World Cup

In a landmark moment for Canadian soccer, the national team achieved its first-ever victory at the 2026 World Cup by decisively defeating Qatar 6-0 in their second group stage match. The game, however, was marred by Qatar's disciplinary issues, as they finished the contest with only nine players after receiving two red cards.

The scoring for Canada commenced early, with Cyle Larin netting a goal in the 16th minute from a rebound. Jonathan David then showcased his skills by scoring twice in the first half, first with a volley in the 29th minute, followed by another goal just before halftime.

Qatar's troubles began in the 33rd minute when Homam Ahmed was shown a straight red card for a foul on Tajon Buchanan, who was denied a clear scoring opportunity. Initially shown a yellow card, Ahmed's infraction warranted a harsher penalty due to the nature of the foul.

The match took yet another turn shortly into the second half when Canadian midfielder Ismaël Koné was stretchered off after a collision with Assim Madibo, prompting an emotional response from teammates. Madibo was subsequently sent off with a red card for the tackle, leaving Qatar with just nine players on the field.

Canada capitalized on their numerical advantage, with Nathan Saliba scoring shortly after he replaced Koné. The goals kept pouring in, including an own goal from Mohammed Manai in the 75th minute and a hat trick from Jonathan David in stoppage time, sealing the 6-0 rout. Despite his remarkable achievement, David's joy was tempered by concern for his injured teammate, Koné.
