Can't Wait For Saturday Hey, Lane Kiffin: Shhhhhh, until you are called on

May 15—***

Because of the way it ended for him last season at Mississippi, every move made by new LSU coach Lane Kiffin receives extra scrutiny. And probably will for the rest of his career.

Kiffin had to apologize for a recent Vanity Fair article in which he compared the diversity at his new school to his former employer.

He made attempts to say "no disrespect" toward Mississippi. But his comments were apparently not received that way in Oxford.

The folks in charge at LSU face a dilemma. The school paid big bucks to get Kiffin to leave a playoff team to come to Baton Rouge. The Tigers want him out there, spreading the word about what is coming for the program. But not if he has to apologize every other week. Or clarify what he meant.

At least he didn't say he was misquoted. The smart folks at Vanity Fair would have certainly put him on tape.

You don't sense that Kiffin has much of a filter. Weird that it became a problem deep in the offseason.

What happens at SEC media days? Or when the season opens?

Don't forget, LSU has a game in 2026 at Mississippi. Will the Tigers allow Kiffin to talk to the media the week of the game? Might be a good idea not to.

If I was to make a list of college head coaches who need to pipe down, Kiffin would fill the first five spots. That is a lot of impact for a guy who hasn't convinced everyone he can even coach.
